The Force1 U45W Blue Jay Wi-Fi FPV Drone comes in the box with the blades already fitted and the only assemble required is the blade guards and the landing gear to be screwed on with the included screwdriver. The drone gets its name from the bright blue blades and finish on the controls. The unit itself is a matt black plastic shell which is quite solid in feel with the camera attached underneath. The drone has 4 spare blades too just in case.
The drone has an on/off switch on the underneath which means you can have the battery installed ready for flying and you can just switch it on before flight.
The Force1 U45W comes with 2 batteries, one in the drone and a spare. The batteries allow around 8 minutes of flying time on one battery. There is a usb charger that is included which can be plugged into your computer or it also comes with a usb power bank which allows you to charge on the go. So that is a handy extra.
The controls on this Blue Jay drone are simple to follow making it much easier when you’re just learning to fly. There is a standard type transmitter with a smartphone holder, it has 2 small joysticks for throttle and manoeuvring. There are 2 speed modes, slower for learners or for videos and quicker for more aggressive flying.
There is a lift off and land button which is a simple control but I think is one of the most helpful to a learner along with the headless mode which means you don’t have to be aware of the orientation of the drone, it will relate to the transmitter and forward will become forward of the control so forwards of wherever you are pointing it, that makes it a little easier when you are starting to learn to fly. Another option that helps beginners and videographers out there is the altitude hold, which works very well even when there is wind about. There are also calibration buttons so you can trim it up if it isn’t flying quite level.
As well as the transmitter controls you can also control this Force1 U45W Blue Jay Wi-Fi FPV Drone with an app with your smartphone. You can do all the things on your phone that you can with the controller so you actually don’t have to use the control you can just use your phone to fly.
You can actually get 2 circles on the phone as your joysticks. You still have all the buttons available on screen to take off and land, to fly with altitude hold, to change the speed mode and set headless flying if you want to.
You can use your phone to fly your U45W with FPV and see what the drone camera can see, you also have the option of 3D with a split screen and virtual reality headset although that can be quite limiting in your vision. You also have a custom route mode which you can draw a route where the right hand control circle would be on the screen and the drone will follow it, so for example if you drew on the screen a square the drone would fly in a square, you’re options are many if you have the time to play with it. You also have the controls on the screen of your phone to record video and take photographs.
The camera is mounted underneath the drone and gives a 720p hd picture which can give a good watchable video. The video can be saved onto a 4gb scandisk memory card, and a reader has been included in the box to make viewing and transfer to your computer simple. The lens on the camera can be adjusted if you wish to change the angle of the view. Once you have it adjusted with the right view you can use all the controls available to film the views that you want.
One customer found that their child of 10 managed to learn to fly this drone in 15 minutes, and other customers have found that the setup to fly time is around 10 minutes and the controls easy to use. Other buyers feel that if you are interested in getting into the hobby of flying drones this is the perfect one to start with.
Negatives found are that some people couldn’t get it to work out of the box, and some had problems with the transmitter losing control of the drone.
If you are looking for a quadcopter drone that has a lot of options for a reasonable cost this Force1 U45W Blue Jay Wi-Fi FPV Drone can be that drone. It has enough options to make flying easier as you become more experienced and to let you record the experience. If you want a gift for yourself or someone you love, consider the Blue Jay.
